MAJOR BOOST: Absolutely a breath of fresh air, as the goalie will likely return earlier than anticipated.

When Mike Maignan fell on the ground with 10 minutes remaining in the match against Newcastle United and requested to be removed, there were some grave concerns.

The MRI scans revealed that Maignan has nothing serious, which gives Milan fans peace as many expected a protracted injury layoff for the custodian, according to this morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via PianetaMilan).

His flexor muscle is only mildly painful, therefore he will take 7–10 days off before returning to target. After two extended absences in the previous two seasons, it was believed that there would be yet another muscle injury.

The Frenchman is expected to start again against Cagliari on Wednesday, July 27, or more likely against Lazio at San Siro on Sunday, July 30.

It is fantastic news for Milan because, despite the fact that he has yet to produce an outstanding save this season, Maignan is still the team’s captain and, given his distribution and sweeping, a key tactical player.
