The Los Angeles Rams are about to add a quarterback who has seen success in the past. The Rams are in the process of signing Carson Wentz to a contract, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. The Rams require quarterback depth because Matthew Stafford is out with a thumb injury. Stafford did not play against the Green Bay Packers last week, so the Rams used Brett Rypien, who threw for only 130 yards in the loss.
Because the Rams don’t have a game this week, Wentz will have more time to learn the playbook and his teammates. Los Angeles is hoping that the week off will allow Staffrod to heal, but if he isn’t ready, they have Wentz, who has started 92 games in his career.
Wentz made his NFL debut in 2016 after being selected second overall by the Philadelphia Eagles. In 2017, he had a breakout season, throwing for 3,296 yards and 33 touchdowns before tearing his ACL in Week 14. Despite his injury, Wentz helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl, and he finished third in MVP voting.
Following the 2020 season, Wentz was traded to the Indianapolis Colts, where he spent one season. In 2021, he threw for 3,563 yards and 27 touchdowns while leading the Colts to a 9-8 record. Wentz was traded to the Washington Commanders in 2022 and threw for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in eight games, seven of which he started.
When Wentz first joined the Commanders last year, he spoke with reporters about his NFL future. “You know, you know, I don’t really think about all of that stuff,” Wentz told Sports Illustrated. “I’m playing the game I love, and I have the most faith in myself of anyone to deliver, to play at a high level, to be a part of something special here with this team.” I don’t put myself under that much stress. People can feel that way and say whatever they want, and I have no problem with that. That’s what it is, but I don’t think in those terms.”
