JUST IN: 2024 coaching panel confirmed by Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide has confirmed its coaching panel for 2024, making three changes to its structure for the upcoming season.

Tyson Goldsack has been promoted to the AFL coaching panel as an assistant coach, Hamish Hartlett has been appointed as the club’s SANFL senior coach, and Jason Williams has been appointed as development coach, incorporating the Next Generation Academy program.

Goldsack, who led Port Adelaide to the SANFL finals this season, has been named the club’s defensive line coach.

He takes over for Nathan Bassett, who left the club last month.

“I’m extremely excited by the opportunity to be the defensive line coach within this program,” Goldsack said in a statement.

“Last year, I transitioned from development coach to leading my own team in the SANFL, and I feel well prepared to oversee the defensive group.”

“With the experience of Aliir Aliir, Trent McKenzie, and Tom Clurey, as well as the recent additions of Esava Ratugolea and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher to complement our group of young defenders, we are building a strong defensive group.”

“I can’t wait to get working with Ken, Chad, Josh and our other coaches across pre-season.”

Hartlett becomes the club’s 42nd coach at the state level, having most recently worked as a development coach within Port Adelaide’s AFL program.

“I’m really excited by the opportunity to coach the SANFL program,” Hartlett said in a statement.

“It’s a big challenge, but I’m excited to build on Goldy’s (Tyson Goldsack) great work this year.”

“It’s a privilege to coach this club at any level and the honour is not lost on me.”

Williams, a proud Noongar from Narrogin, Western Australia, will take over as development coach for Hartlett.

Williams, who is passionate about mentoring and development, has served as the AFL’s Indigenous Talent Programs Head Coach, as well as the Bacchus Marsh Football Club in 2023. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at the Northern Bullants of the Victorian Football League and the Calder Cannons of the Victorian U/18 league.

“I’m passionate about helping young footballers grow and maximise their potential,” he said.

“Having spent part of this past season with Port Adelaide observing and shadowing their coaching group, I could not be more excited by this opportunity.”

Football GM at Port Adelaide Chris Davies is enthusiastic about the club’s coaching staff for 2024.

“We have a great balance of experience and new energy within our coaching structure for 2024,” Davies told reporters.

“In 2024, Josh and Chad will continue to coach the midfield and forward lines, respectively.” Josh has done an excellent job with our young midfield group, and Chad has played an important role in the development of many of our young players, including Ollie Lord in 2023.

“After a strong coaching performance as the SANFL program’s head coach, Tyson Goldsack is well positioned to join our senior AFL coaching panel.” He has a strong connection with our playing group and will bring energy and new ideas to our group.

“We’re also very excited to promote Hamish to senior coach of the Magpies within our program.” We believe Hamish has what it takes to be a successful coach and look forward to seeing him lead the SANFL team in 2024.

“We’re excited to welcome Jason Williams to our development coaching team.” Jason has a strong football background mentoring and coaching both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal athletes, and we believe he will be a valuable addition to our program.”
