Newcastle is moving towards closing two significant deals as they try to keep their place amongst Europe elites.

Eddie Howe, the manager of Newcastle United, is reportedly nearing agreements on two crucial transactions as he seeks to build on the club’s fourth-place performance from the previous year.

The Magpies have had a mixed start to the season thus far; in their first six league games, they have won three and lost three.

In their most recent game, they defeated newly promoted Sheffield United by an 8-0 score to secure a record-breaking away win in the Premier League era.

For his essential contribution to the squad and his form, Longstaff has garnered high appreciation from commentators like Jamie Redknapp. Last season, Newcastle’s European run also depended on Longstaff.

The 2006 team player who graduated from the Newcastle academy made his senior team debut under Rafael Benitez in the 2018–19 campaign.

The midfielder’s existing deal takes him until the summer of 2025, but the Magpies are hoping to tie him down to a long term deal, according to reports from Football Insider.

Journalist Peter O’Rourke explains: “Manager Eddie Howe is keen to keep the spine of his squad at Newcastle as he looks to build on the successes of last season –  and both Longstaff and Joelinton have been identified as key.”

News of Joelinton’s potential extension will also come as music to the ears of the Newcastle faithful.

2019 saw the signing of the Brazil international for the Magpies for a then-record sum of £40 million. Despite only managing two goals throughout his time, he was instantly given the number nine shirt, but he struggled to perform in front of goal.

After struggling to establish himself in Tyneside at first, Joelinton has developed into one of the team’s most important players since Eddie Howe’s arrival.

His talent and work ethic have been essential to Newcastle’s success. The former Hoffenheim player has played on the left flank of attack and through the centre of midfield. As revealed by Fabrizo Romano last week, he has a crucial agreement with his midfield partner Bruno Guimaraes, who is also getting close to signing a contract extension.

Also currently scheduled to end in the summer of 2025 is Joelinton’s contract.
