Rafael Leao believes Milan are on the right track to win the UEFA Champions League after reaching the semi-finals last season. Winning the continental competition is more valuable to the Portuguese player, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
Leao spoke at length to GQ Portugal (via Calciomercato) about his desire of winning the UCL with the Rossoneri.
“I believe the club is on the right track.” We were able to go to the Champions League semi-finals. The club’s goal now must be to continue rising and remaining strong. And I am confident that Milan will return to winning the Champions League, which is our ultimate ambition, in the near future. I speak on behalf of
Speaking for myself, I’m young, I’m a player who wants to achieve big things, and I believe the Champions League is every player’s ambition, which we’re aiming towards.”
Leao claims he has much more to do in Europe before considering a large Arab money move.
“I haven’t yet achieved great enough results to qualify for a championship like that.” Money talks louder these days, but a Champions League win is worth more to me than a ten-million-dollar paycheck.”
He also recalled Milan’s two-leg loss to Inter in the UCL semi-finals last season.
“We had some absences, and Inter were clearly superior due to a lack of solutions on the bench.” They have a highly well-rounded squad, both in the starting eleven and on the bench.
Leao just signed a new contract extension with the Rossoneri until the summer of 2028, effectively ruling out any possibility of a departure.
“You can never say never, but I’m in a club that has been very welcoming to me; I’ve renewed now.” I was considering leaving, but I decided against it. For the next two or three years, I’m focused on producing big things with Milan.”
