GOOD NEWS: Pioli reveals details of Milan board meeting over January signing, Late formation and Leao’s response to Milan Captaincy

Stefano Pioli was justifiably thrilled with Milan’s victory over Hellas Verona last night, despite the fact that the performance should have been better. The formation, he confirmed, was a last-minute modification.

The Rossoneri used a 3-4-3 formation instead of the typical 4-3-3, which made the game highly rough. Rafael Leao scored first, and the rest of the game was a fight on the field.

In an interview with MilanTV (see video below), Pioli discussed the hard-fought victory and stated that the formation adjustment was made at the final minute. He also reported what Reijdners and Musah said to him following the game.

Regarding the late formation change…

“We had planned to play with our usual system until Thursday, when we discovered that Calabria and Theo couldn’t start.” With no full-backs available, we chose to go with a back three. We worked on it for about half a training session, but I believe we were well prepared.

“We made an effort to play good football.” We were up against an in-form, physical, and aggressive team today, so we couldn’t always play slick football.

Regarding Kjaer and Florenzi…

“They are unquestionably leaders in this bunch, both when they play and when they don’t. They are experienced players who understand the procedures as well as how to keep the spirits up.

They are not just excellent individuals, but also great footballers.”

“This is a good group, but it can make mistakes,” says Leao. We have made mistakes and will continue to make them, but we will always support one another. We do it not with words, but with a positive attitude and actions. We all wanted Rafa to captain the team; he provided the necessary answer, but we had no reservations.”

Regarding Bartesaghi…

“I’m pleased for him because he worked very hard with us over the summer.” He was given an opportunity and took it; he will be given more.”

Regarding the new signings…

“The lads are settling in well, but the process is not yet complete.” Tijjani and Yunus informed me at the end of the game, “Gaffer, it’s tough in Italy, it’s so hard to beat your man because they are so aggressive and physical.” These problems are surmountable, and they will get more so with each game. They require extra time to become acquainted with the system.”

Milan’s next match is against Cagliari on Wednesday evening, and they will be seeking for another three points. There will almost certainly be some rotation for that game as well.
