Just In: Pioli message to Milan Fans ahead of Newcastle United clash after suffering an embarrassing defect to rivals

AC Milan head coach Stefano Pioli admits that the result and performance against Inter were both disappointing, but he sees the game against Newcastle as an opportunity to right the ship.

Pioli talked to Sky on the eve of the game, and he began by reflecting on Inter’s 5-1 setback at San Siro on Saturday evening, which made it five derby defeats in a row, with his comments recounted by MilanNews.

“It’s natural to have expectations, but the outcome and performance were not what we expected, and there is much disappointment.” We instantly began thinking about tomorrow’s game; our experiences have taught us that nothing is impossible, and we are Milan.

“[We are] a responsible, united, and powerful group.” We are living with these emotions: the disappointment is palpable, but we are conscious that it is the start of the season, and that tomorrow we have the opportunity to show that we are not the same as we were in the derby. I didn’t feel the need to intervene since we have a strong chance of having a good season.”

Pioli was also questioned what added motivation he gets from playing in the Champions League and on important European nights at San Siro, as well as how he feels about Sandro Tonali’s return following a summer move to Newcastle.

will play again after serving a one-game suspension against Inter.

“We’ll see when Tomori returns.” There are other options; we just finished the derby a few days ago. The players are available; what matters is that you feel pleased. Newcastle will force us to take alternative positions; they are an English team that is muscular and fast, so we will have to be cautious.

“Tomorrow’s game will be different; the defenders will not be numerically equal, and there will be other situations.” We have paid for cunning, attentiveness, and cunning, and to play at some levels, you must be careful and accurate. We have our traits, and we play our game with great tenacity.”

Given the strength of PSG, Newcastle, and Dortmund, many believe Milan will have to fight to qualify from their group.

“We couldn’t have asked for a more difficult group; there is balance.” PSG are the favorites, and the other clubs are strong, but we have our cards to play, and starting well tomorrow would be crucial.”
