Giuseppe Riso, Tonali’s agent, who negotiated the £52 million transfer of his client from AC Milan to Newcastle earlier this summer, claims as much. Fans of Milan, who had long predicted the future captain as a devoted Rossoneri fan, were shocked by the deal.
Strange rumors even circulated in Italy that a heartbroken Tonali had been forcibly relocated to Newcastle. Tonali was made aware to the club that he would be open to the trade, but Newcastle conducted their due diligence early in the summer.
Tonali was hauled to St James’ Park, according to Eddie Howe, and the Newcastle manager said the 23-year-old was’very proud to be here’. Now, ahead of Tonali’s return to the San Siro in the Champions League later this month, Riso has explained why the midfielder left Milan to join Newcastle in the first place.
The English league according to Tonali’s agent, “is a different matter; it’s like the NBA of football.” Newcastle has the largest ownership in the world and a well-defined strategy to take control of both England and Europe.
