The move is made more difficult by the veteran’s loss to the Houston Rockets. However, there are still potential upgrades available in the free agent and trade markets.

One would think that after the Lakers’ disappointing exit last season, the team would realize that they need to add more size both inside and out. In light of this, the Lakers will have to add at least one standout big man, and Horford is a perfect fit. If the veteran decides to retire or sign elsewhere, the team will have to look at the trade market, and the only viable options are Taj Gibson and Tristan Thompson, neither of whom is particularly alluring. Hayes was a good depth option, but the team now needs a contributor to the rotation rather than a liability when the games count.
