The Los Angeles Lakers have apparently been happy to just sit back and hope for better things since acquiring Deandre Ayton. The departure of Dorian Finney-Smith, a good shooter and wing defender, outweighed the surprise addition of former rival Marcus Smart. The move is made more difficult by the veteran’s loss to the Houston Rockets. However, there are still potential upgrades available in the free agent and trade markets.
The Lakers have been at the top of the list of clubs that need to be doing more during an exceptionally quiet NBA offseason. Al Horford, a current free agent and former rival, is one potential choice left. The successful center is considering retirement or the future.
Los Angeles must attempt to convince the veteran into joining Smart in defecting to a rival.
Horford adds size to the Lakers’ bench and is a seasoned player who can score and defend in quick spurts. Horford is clearly getting older, but having the center on any competing team has tremendous value. Because of this, despite Boston’s desire for Horford to return and the veteran’s openness about his affection for the organization, a long list of teams are keeping an eye on him.
