Marcell Ozuna is one player the Atlanta Braves may try to transfer before Thursday’s MLB trade deadline, as they are predicted to be sellers as they fall further and further out of playoff contention.
On Tuesday, Buster Olney of ESPN claimed that “movement is developing” around a possible deal for Ozuna. According to reports, at least one team has discussed attempting to sign the 34-year-old internally.
Olney hinted that the San Diego Padres would become a suitor for Ozuna, but he did not specify which team.
If the Braves decide to part with Ozuna, they might not demand a huge haul because the Padres need a designated hitter.
Ozuna has a complete no-trade clause and is in the last year of his contract. His willingness to play for San Diego or any other team is unknown.
Ozuna played in all 162 games for the Braves last season and hit.302, but his average has dropped this season, as he is only batting.233. Still, he is a dependable power hitter with 14 home runs.
