One of the NBA’s most talked-about players in recent years has been Victor Wembanyama, the young star big man for the San Antonio Spurs. To be honest, Wembanyama is unlike anything the league has ever seen. When it comes to his physical attributes, he is truly unique. He also has a distinct skill set. Regretfully, blood clot problems led him to miss his second NBA season last year. The Spurs are once again a team that many believe has the potential to advance as they enter their third season. Wembanyama’s ability to assemble a season will determine that.
Having stated that, a former NBA player made a nasty statement against Wembanyama. Although the criticism was honest, it was nevertheless extremely critical. In an episode of his “520 Podcast,” former star point guard Jeff Teague stated unequivocally that he would now prefer Paolo Banchero to Wembanyama. He continued by disparaging the San Antonio center. “I’m taking him over Wemby, I’m taking P5 over Wemby,” Teague replied. “Bro, I’m taking him over Wemby right now. He’s better than Wemby, in my opinion, because Wemby hasn’t accomplished anything. Wemby is a freak, which is why we like him.
Even if he is an incredible athlete, I will just follow my instincts. Wembanyama participated in 46 games with the Spurs the previous season. In addition to shooting 47.6 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from the three-point line, he averaged 24.3 points per game, 11 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals. Banchero also played in 46 games, for comparison. In addition to shooting 45.2 percent from the field and 32 percent from three-point range, he averaged 25.9 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.
From an external perspective, Wembanyama did generate superior figures. Although Teague has the right to his views, it is highly controversial. What the 21-year-old big guy has planned for the 2025–2026 campaign will be intriguing to see. After recovering from a frightening health issue, he will be trying to make up lost time and guide San Antonio back to the postseason.
