The NFL is starting training camps, and the Detroit Lions have been readjusting to their routine for about a week. The 2025 regular season will soon start, and head coach Dan Campbell will have roughly six weeks to get the Lions’ rookies and veterans ready for the action.
However, Detroit has to make it through the remainder of camp and the preseason before the important football games start. Hendon Hooker, a quarterback who has been the focus of trade speculations all summer after veteran quarterback Kyle Allen signed a one-year contract in March, is one Lion who isn’t assured of being on the 53-man roster come Week 1.
Despite the current slowdown in trade rumors, Hooker’s situation may improve in light of the league’s most recent injury reports.
Following the injury loss of Will Levis, Lions quarterback Hendon Hooker is the ideal trade target for the Titans.
Tennessee Titans quarterback would Levis is scheduled to have surgery on his right shoulder on Monday, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter, which would prevent him from playing in 2025. After making just 12 games due to a shoulder ailment last season, the former Kentucky product “has been unable to shake the discomfort” ever since.
Will Levis, the quarterback for the Titans, will have surgery to repair the damage he suffered to his right shoulder early in the season before making it worse later. Levis’ shoulder continues to ache, and he has been unable to get rid of it.
After 2025 first overall pick Cam Ward, Brandon Allen will now be the Titans’ quarterback number two due to Levis’ injury. Additionally, Tim Boyle, a former Lions signal-caller, has been moved up to the QB3 position on the depth chart. It wouldn’t be out of the question that Tennessee would want to sign another quarterback as quickly as possible, considering how unreliable Boyle has been at center.
Hooker and the Lions can help with that.
It is no secret that Hooker needs a new beginning. Since being selected 68th overall in 2023, the 27-year-old gunslinger has fallen short of expectations, and a change of scenery might be just what he needs to reach his full potential.
For the Titans, Hooker may be a good QB3 on a young squad or at the at least, he could inspire Boyle to take the field. Joining the Titans would be a homecoming for the Greensboro, North Carolina native, who also attended the University of Tennessee for two seasons, which may thrill the fan base.
Would the Lions be able to get Hooker back with a third-round pick similar to the one they used to draft him? Most likely not, but if Detroit doesn’t see him as a key component of its future, a fourth-round pick or even a Round 5 pick would be a good middle ground.
If the Titans are ready to take a chance, Hooker might be granted a one-way ticket out of the Motor City sooner rather than later, as the 2025 NFL preseason approaches.
