Former Chicago Bears wide receiver Chase Claypool is attempting an NFL comeback after a tumultuous tenure with the team. Claypool was acquired by the Bears in a trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers for a second-round pick in 2022 but failed to live up to expectations, playing only 10 games and totaling 18 catches for 191 yards and one touchdown. The Bears traded him to the Miami Dolphins for a seventh-round pick in 2023.
Claypool recently shared on Instagram that he’s been working hard to rehab a season-ending injury he suffered last year, tearing a ligament and tendon in his second toe. Despite his past struggles with the Bears, Claypool believes he’s now the strongest and fastest he’s ever been and is eager to prove himself in the NFL again.
After being released by the Buffalo Bills in August with an injury settlement, Claypool is likely to attract interest from teams looking for a 6-foot-4 receiver with 4.3 speed. While it’s uncertain whether he’ll get another shot, he might sign a one-year deal with a receiver-needy team before training camp.
Claypool’s NFL Journey:
Chicago Bears (2022-2023): Played 10 games, 18 catches, 191 yards, 1 touchdown
Miami Dolphins (2023): Traded for a seventh-round pick
Buffalo Bills (2024) Released with injury settlement
Given his physical attributes and determination, Claypool might still find a place in the NFL, but it’s unlikely he’ll return to the Chicago Bears
