
Manny Machado, the San Diego Padres’ star, has had a fantastic career and is far from done. Machado has officially joined the 2,000-hit club. Machado accomplished this milestone on Monday, when the team lost 6-3 to the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Machado’s historic hit came against Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen in the fourth inning. He collected three hits in the game, including a home run.
“Doing it in front of the home crowd definitely is a lot better, and hopefully there’s more,” Machado said, according to the Associated Press.
Machado received a tip of the cap from his manager following the momentous moment.
“Wow, seriously, hats off. “What an accomplishment,” Padres manager Mike Shildt stated. “We’re pleased with it. “He deserved it.
Machado has been with San Diego for six years, joining the team in 2019. He formerly played for the Baltimore Orioles and Los Angeles Dodgers. He has been with MLB since the 2012 season.
The Padres are currently 48-42 on the season after falling to Arizona on Monday. San Diego has six losses in its last ten games.

Machado was moved by his accomplishments on Monday. He is now just the seventh player in Major League Baseball to have at least 2,000 career hits. Machado is also the 12th player to reach 350 home runs and 2,000 hits before the age of 32, according to the Associated Press.
“It’s special and an honor to be a part of that list,” she remarked. “Definitely would have wanted the victory, but stepping away from that, it’s pretty cool.”
The Padres star is having another good season at the plate. He is hitting.293 on the year and has 53 RBIs. He is on course for another season of at least 100 runs batted in.

The infielder is also going up San Diego’s all-time hit chart. While he is still a long way from Tony Gwynn, Machado is currently the Padres’ fifth all-time leading hitter. He has 980 hits as a member of San Diego’s team.
Machado had three seasons of at least 100 RBIs with San Diego. He set a career best in runs batted in during the 2021 season.
