The Philadelphia Eagles will enter the 2025 NFL season as the defending champions, having defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl previous season.
Much has changed since the Super Bowl victory. During the offseason, the Eagles lost several crucial players, particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
Pass rushers Josh Sweat and Milton Williams were among the big departures. They also witnessed Darius Slay, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, and Isaiah Rodgers depart town.
Howie Roseman has been quiet late in the offseason. However, there is a potential he will consider entering the free agent market to add another defensive element. Adding to the pass rush would be a sensible decision for Philadelphia.
Keeping that in mind, the Eagles have been mentioned as a potential landing site for one intriguing free agent prospect.
Bleacher Report analyst Matt Holder recently examined the top likely destinations for a few defensive free agents. One of those free agents was Jadeveon Clowney.
Holder believes Philadelphia would be a strong contender for Clowney.
“The Eagles’ defense took a lot of hits this offseason, including losing Josh Sweat in free agency,” Holder said. “While Nolan Smith Jr. and Jalyx Hunt are expected to take over, in addition to pass-rush specialists Azeez Ojulari and Joshua Uche, it couldn’t hurt to bring in Clowney as an insurance policy.”
Clowney recently finished the 2024 NFL season with the Carolina Panthers, where he played 14 games. He recorded 46 tackles, 5.5 sacks, and four defended passes.
While Clowney has never lived up to the expectations surrounding his selection as the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL draft, he is still worth taking a chance on.
It is probable that the Eagles will have no interest in Clowney. However, it wouldn’t hurt to bring him in and see what he still has in the tank.
