Following the California Classic, the Summer League will go to Las Vegas for all 30 teams, beginning on July 10th, with a Spurs clash versus the Dallas Mavericks and first-round selection Cooper Flagg. The Spurs are only hoping Dylan Harper is available for that showdown.

According to Tom Orsborn, a Spurs writer for the San Antonio Express-News, Harper will accompany the club to the California Classic but will not play due to a groin ailment. They hope to have him back in Las Vegas, but that is still up in the air.

“It’s minimal, but he’s doing fine. “He’s been on the court,” Spurs Summer League coach Mike Noyes explained.

The Spurs will not endanger Harper’s rookie season, so if the groin injury persists into next week, he will be rested to ensure he is fully healed. They feel Harper, along with Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle, will be important parts of their future. The Summer League is an excellent method to develop camaraderie among young players and begin incorporating them into the system, but there’s no reason to risk injury over 10 days of basketball in the desert.
