The Lions need some positive publicity. Even while Detroit is still the division favorite going into training camp, it’s likely by the narrowest margin in the previous two to three years after an offseason to remember. Paradoxically, the Good Vibes club in the NFC North is in dire need of some.
And what could be more positive than a significant trade for a well-known person in dire need? Is it required? No! Is it feasible? It’s not. Does any of that matter, though? Never. With just one small trade for a star-ish pass rusher, the Lions could make everyone forget about Ben Johnson (or was it Bob Johnson?) and Bleacher Report has the ideal candidate: edge Kayvon Thibodeaux of the New York Giants.
According to Bleacher Report, the Lions may yet make a significant trade for an EDGE.
Since the New York Giants selected Abdul Carter to collaborate with Brian Burns, a possible trade involving Kayvon Thibodeaux has made sense. The Giants may be able to keep onto their 2022 first-round pick for some time, though, as having three strong pass-rushers isn’t a bad thing. However, given the deficiencies in other areas, it might make sense to trade Thibodeaux to fill a more significant need, particularly if the squad is still together as the deadline draws near.
Given that Malik Nabers’ rise may contribute to Russell Wilson having a redemption season, I have a hunch that this will be the case. We are once more considering Detroit, Green Bay, and Washington if that is the course of events. Thibodeaux is the consolation prize in this instance because he isn’t nearly as well-known as Hendrickson. To stay competitive in the NFC North, the Lions may feel compelled to outbid the Commanders here as they have more money to spend than they do.
Though it’s a nice idea to consider, I don’t think Thibodeaux is going anywhere in reality—if any Super Bowl in the past five years has taught us anything, it’s that you need to get home with four guys. According to reports, the Lions tried unsuccessfully to acquire another elite pass rusher to complement Aidan Hutchinson during the whole summer. However, could it be that they were holding off on making a more spectacular, shocking mid-season trade? I had assumed that the Lions’ front staff had made a mistake and hadn’t thought of this entertaining alternative.
It might work or it might not. However, it would be enjoyable, and Lions supporters could use a little of that at the moment.
