According to a recent report by NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers are engaged in serious trade negotiations over tight end Jonnu Smith.
Miami will be looking to get a new tight end if a deal is reached in the coming weeks. Given that tight ends usually play a significant role in the Dolphins’ offense, the team will need to try to replace Smith, who contributed significantly to the offense the previous season.
For the previous few seasons, Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts has been mentioned in speculations.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz claimed that the Falcons are leaning toward keeping him and that trading him would require at least a day two pick.
Why not give up a day two selection for Kyle Pitts if the Dolphins are in dire need of a tight end after trading Smith? Miami will need to replace Smith as soon as possible if they are to return to the running as soon as feasible. Pitts is bound to excel in a Mike McDaniel offense since he has demonstrated his abilities when the ball is in his direction.
Kyle Pitts, Mike Hughes, and a sixth-round pick would be exchanged for Jalen Ramsey and a third-round pick. In addition to the day two pick they desire, the Falcons would acquire one of the league’s top seasoned corners to replace A.J. Terrell and strengthen their secondary. Although Terrell has consistently been among the league’s top corners, the Falcons have had difficulty finding a player to compete with him.
In addition to obtaining a third-round pick, this transaction would accomplish that. One of the up-and-coming teams that is only a few pieces away from being a contender is the Falcons.
They must make sure they bolster the defense and surround second-year quarterback Michael Penix with weapons since he appears to be a fine player.
With this selection, they will be able to acquire a third-round player who might be a receiver or Pitts’ replacement, which will help them become contenders soon. When Hughes is replaced by Ramsey, they won’t miss him at all, and it would be preferable for the team to give up Pitts in order to acquire him and a high pick.
In order to give Tagovailoa and the offense another weapon, the Dolphins would acquire Pitts to replace Smith.
Pitts scored four touchdowns and 602 yards from 47 receptions. His 6’6 246-pound physique and receiver-like talents make him an inappropriate fit for any linebacker or safety.
Tyreek Hill’s pace on the outside combined with creating that mismatch on the inside will force opponents to make some difficult choices. The Dolphins have already begun preparing for Ramsey’s absence, so having Mike Hughes return as a seasoned veteran cornerback is just what they need. Simply another experienced body capable of making plays for them and their exhausted secondary.
Last season, Hughes started 15 games for the Falcons and recorded six pass deflections, four tackles for loss, and 66 tackles. Hughes is a versatile cornerback who can play wherever the Dolphins need him to in the secondary. He would be an ideal addition to Miami’s defense because of his ability to create plays and handle the ball.
Ramsey would be partially replaced by the Dolphins’ new tight end and a seasoned cornerback who can still make plays. Although it wouldn’t improve their cornerback position, this would make the room better than it is now. The Dolphins should go all out for Pitts and get their future tight end if they do decide to deal Smith.
