Atlanta has been ranked as the top destination for experienced wide receivers, despite the fact that this is improbable given the limited cap space and the already strong wide receiver room with youthful prospects.
Unexpectedly, Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated has determined that Keenan Allen is the greatest fit for the Atlanta Falcons. It’s possible that Allen is past his best and that the monster contracts he once had are over. But in a deep receiver room, the 33-year-old wide receiver might be another weapon at the proper price.
“Allen’s production slightly declined in his lone season with the Chicago Bears, but some of that should be attributed to Caleb Williams getting very little time to operate behind one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL,” Manzano said. “In his final season with the Chargers, Allen registered 108 catches for 1,243 yards.”
“And with 70 receptions for 744 yards and seven touchdowns last season, it’s not like he plummeted off a cliff. In Atlanta, Allen, 33, might be able to assist Drake London and Michael Penix Jr. Unless Kyle Pitts, a tight end, starts to be consistently targeted.”
Last season, Allen’s cap hit was $23.5 million. Given that Atlanta only has slightly more than $5 million in cap room, a signing would appear implausible. To do so, a trade would need to be in place, but the Falcons have a history of signing players who are older than thirty. In this case, don’t expect Atlanta to sacrifice anything in order to acquire Allen.
