JUST IN: Miami Heat Head Coach Erik Spoelstra Has Confirmed and Announced The Heat Have Officially Ditch Kevin Durant For 12-Time All-Star From San Antonio Spurs

This offseason, the Miami Heat must be active.

They failed in their postseason attempts after several years of front office stagnation, missing out on a great option with Jimmy Butler for several seasons. Unfortunately, they don’t have much resources to spend without amusing franchise mainstays Tyler Herro and Bam Adebayo. Miami is therefore more likely to look for a supplementary player rather than sign a superstar like Kevin Durant.

Kevin Durant Responds to San Antonio Spurs Trade Report

Dan Favale of Bleacher Report names Tyus Jones of the Phoenix Suns and Chris Paul of the San Antonio Spurs as potential temporary experienced point guards for Miami.

“More likely than not, the Heat are looking at using the mini mid-level of $5.7 million or slightly more without some cap-sheet surgery,” writes Favale. “They won’t acquire a future point guard that way. It might be sufficient to acquire an improved backup like Chris Paul, Tre Jones, or Tyus Jones.

In the backcourt, Paul and Jones would make good plays. Their ball-handling skills would help Herro as the main option, even if they wouldn’t be excellent scorers.

“After finishing inside the bottom 10 of points scored per possession for a third consecutive season, the Miami Heat desperately need to carve out a new—this is to say, actual—offensive identity,” Favale said. “That starts with landing someone who can run the show.”
