Shedeur Sanders was projected to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, but he dropped all the way to the fifth round. Sanders was signed by the Cleveland Browns, who suddenly have a very interesting quarterback situation. Sanders, Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and Dillon Gabriel will compete for the starting position while Deshaun Watson recovers from an injury. Gabriel is the other quarterback taken by the Browns in this year’s NFL Draft, in the third round.
These four quarterbacks should compete fiercely for the Browns’ starting jobs. Shedeur Sanders recently stated that there is a story circulating about some tension in the quarterback room, but he refuted such reports.
“Everybody’s cool in the room,” Sanders stated while speaking with Kay Adams. “Outside the room, people try to pit us against each other, but, inside the room, we know we’re one.”
There are several differences between all of these players. Flacco and Watson have been in the NFL for a long time, and there are two rookies, Sanders and Gabriel. Pickett, who has been in the league for three seasons, falls somewhere in the center.
“We’re all different characters,” Sanders stated. “It’s funny to go there and see Joe [Flacco] every day. It’s funny seeing him because I’m like, ‘Wow, I’m totally with Joe Flacco right now.
We are on the same team! So that’s wonderful, and then, of course, with Kenny [Pickett], the expertise he has from being in the league for so many years, it’s cool to witness the process. And Deshaun [Watson] is really active in there; he attends all of the meetings, so it’s great to chat to him.”
Shedeur Sanders was not picked until the fifth round, but he still has a good chance of winning the quarterback competition. He was one of the top quarterbacks in college football last year, and many believe that his draft slide had nothing to do with his actual skill and promise on the field. Sanders has the tools to become a very successful quarterback in the NFL.
