The San Antonio Spurs found a gem in the 2024 NBA draft when they selected former UConn guard Stephon Castle with the fourth overall choice.
Castle outperformed expectations in his debut season with the Spurs, scoring 14.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game.
Castle was named NBA Rookie of the Year for 2024-25 in April, recognizing his outstanding performance. On Tuesday, the 20-year-old NBA guard received another distinction.
Castle received 100 out of 100 possible first-team votes in the 2024-25 NBA All-Rookie First Team election.
The Spurs responded to the announcement on social media.
Castle is the Spurs’ second consecutive Rookie of the Year, succeeding 2023 No. 1 choice Victor Wembanyama.
“I feel like our future is really set,” Castle stated in a recent conversation with Wembanyama. “I mean, it’s just turning up. From the small glances we offered this year, before [Wembanyama] and Fox went out, to having that in our back pocket for next year, plus more, speaks volumes about our future.”
“I definitely wish we had spent more time together,” Wembanyama said. “We got many years to do that.”
The Spurs have the ability to add another superstar rookie in the upcoming draft. San Antonio recently secured the second overall choice in the 2025 NBA draft Lottery.
