A NEW ERA BEGINS: Spurs President Of Basketball Operation Gregg Popovich Issues a Bold Reality Check On Giannis Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama Duo

According to Sam Vecenie of The Athletic, Milwaukee Bucks superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo is the most frequently mentioned name among league insiders as a potential San Antonio Spurs trade target.

ESPN’s Shams Charania claimed on Monday that Antetokounmpo, who has spent his whole career in Milwaukee, is open to leaving for the first time.

The Spurs have the second-highest pick in this year’s draft. They could theoretically trade that choice, along with several other players, to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo, a two-time MVP and one-time Finals MVP who will be inducted into the Hall of Fame someday.

If San Antonio could acquire Antetokounmpo, the team would have a formidable “Big 3” of Antetokounmpo, Victor Wembanyama, and De’Aaron Fox.

One Eastern Conference executive told Vecenie that if Antetokounmpo joined Wembanyama in San Antonio, the Spurs would be his top pick to win the title.

“If the Spurs paired Giannis and Wemby, they would be the favorite to win the title next year,” the executive stated. “They’d have two players who could be top five in the league next year on the same squad.

“Plus, they fit. They’d have a great defense that no one could score on inside, and they’d be able to play five-out in a more devastating style than the Bucks did with Brook Lopez if they surrounded Giannis and Wemby with the correct wings.”

Antetokounmpo does not have a no-trade clause in his contract. In 67 games with the Bucks this season, he averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.2 blocks.

Milwaukee has only won one postseason series since capturing the 2021 championship. The Indiana Pacers have defeated the Bucks in the first round of the playoffs for the second year in a row.
