Deshaun Watson’s future with the Cleveland Browns is uncertain, but his presence remains significant as the team analyzes its crowded quarterback room.
Watson first tore his Achilles in October against the Cincinnati Bengals. A reinjury during his rehabilitation in January necessitated a second surgery, which sidelined him indefinitely. While the Browns have not established a definite schedule, they have stated that he will miss a large portion of the 2025 season.
Watson has remained active around the club facility, finding ways to contribute despite his injury.
“He’s working very hard. “He’s doing a good job with his rehabilitation,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said Saturday. “Doing a great job in the meeting room as well.”
Stefanski also stated that Watson is no longer wearing his walking boot, which is a positive step forward in his recovery.
The bad news for Watson is that even if he returns, he is unlikely to compete for the starting quarterback job in Cleveland, despite his $230 million contract that goes through 2026.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam referred to Watson’s 2022 move as a “swing and miss,” indicating that the team is prepared to find his replacement.
