Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has formally announced rookie quarterback Will Howard as the team’s long-term starter going forward, marking a significant turn toward the future. Days after the 2025 NFL Draft concluded, the Steelers announced that they had selected Howard out of Ohio State in the sixth round.
Howard was a late-round selection, but during rookie minicamp, he reportedly wowed the coaching staff with his leadership abilities, playbook knowledge, and unexpected poise. Even though experienced quarterback Kenny Pickett is still on the team, Tomlin’s open support of Howard raises little question about the team’s future.
