The Chicago Bears’ failure to sign a well-known running back was the most disappointing aspect of the 2025 draft for supporters. It did not make sense. This was the most in-depth class in recent memory. Studs are everywhere. Despite this, the squad continued to put off for six rounds. The belief is they
had intended to take guys sooner, but other teams kept taking the ones they wanted. Ashton Jeanty advanced to the first round, followed by TreVeyon Henderson in the second round and Cam Skattebo in the fourth round. Each went just a few spots ahead of the Bears. They landed Kyle Monangai of Rutgers on the 7th round.
That provided some relief for fans. Despite their terrible draft luck, the Bears may need to find alternative solutions to fill the position. This means seeking assistance in undrafted free agency. They might have done it. The squad announced that it had signed Texas State.
Running back Deion Hankins. His performance in college was adequate but not exceptional. He is not recognized for his exceptional speed. He possesses throwback qualities such as power, vision, and touch balance.
The Chicago Bears’ interest in Hankins is justified.
Throughout college, he was never the true bellcow in the backfield. He always shared his carries with others. Nevertheless, he continued to produce. Over the last three collegiate seasons,
He averaged 5.0 yards per carry. Someone could claim that he declared for the professionals too late. If he had graduated from UTEP in 2023, he could have been picked after accumulating 812 yards and five touchdowns.
Instead, he transferred to Texas State, where he was reduced to a minor position on the offense.
Ryan Poles may have compared him to Knile Davis, a former third-round choice of the Kansas City Chiefs. This downhill runner is strong and has a keen sense of opportunity. Davis never panned out due to frequent injury issues,
There were moments early in his career when he was good. Hankins has a similar approach but is less known for his health troubles. If given a fair chance throughout training camp, he has the potential to make the team for the Chicago Bears.
