CELTICS OFFICIAL: Boston Celtics Have Officially Sign Fomer NBA Champ, a 7-Foot Center and Scoring Gem To Replace Al Horford In a Shocking Trade With Arch Rivals

Although nothing has been confirmed, it is generally believed that Al Horford will not play for the Boston Celtics again in the upcoming campaign.

According to Brian Robb of Mass Live, the NBA champion big man will either declare his retirement at age 39 or join the Golden State Warriors on Friday.

“The league has a strong belief that he’s gone, which Brad Stevens publicly acknowledged last month,” Robb said. He can receive far more elsewhere and have a greater chance of winning another championship this season, as the Celtics are probably only giving him the veteran’s minimum.

“Once an agreement with Jonathan Kuminga is struck, it is anticipated that the waiting game will result in him joining Golden State.

Retirement may be imminent if a signing doesn’t occur after that.

In order to potentially replace Horford should he leave this summer, the Celtics decided to sign a 7-foot center that they recently acquired (from the Orlando Magic on draft night).

“Amari Williams, a No. 46 pick, signed a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics,” Michael Scotto of HoopsHype said on Friday.
“He averaged 3.2 assists, 1.2 blocks, 8.5 rebounds, and 10.9 points on 56% shooting for Kentucky. The contract was finalized by Celtics officials and GSL Sports Group agent George S. Langberg.

Williams, who shot 30% from three on 30 attempts throughout his undergraduate career, shouldn’t be considered a stretch five just yet.

Joe Mazzulla will return as Celtics head coach. Brad Stevens explains why.

However, he has demonstrated his ability to be successful outside of the paint.

Williams demonstrates that versatility is the key to his success by using his powerful left hand to take slower centers off the dribble, jump-stopping close to the free throw before finding cutters, or starting the offense if his point and/or combo guard can’t get away from his defender in the backcourt.

The 23-year-old’s ability to finish above the hoop in middle and high ball screen scenarios is also advantageous.

The Celtics should be thrilled about Williams’ development in Boston.
