As they concentrate on retooling for the 2025–2026 season, the Boston Celtics have been busily reassembling their roster this offseason, giving careful investments top priority.
By moving away key players Kristaps Porzingis and Jrue Holiday, general manager Brad Stevens accelerated the process. The majority of the tough lifting is probably done, but there are still more moves to come.
Could the docket contain anything else?
Ivan White of Sporting News recommends the Celtics sign five-time All-Star forward Kevin Love in order to have financial flexibility in the future.
“The team is particularly lacking inside, even though they have made some small efforts to address their departures,” White wrote. Boston could sign Kevin Love to give them a little more depth inside to deal with that problem.
Is Kevin Love being pursued by the Celtics?
On Tuesday, Boston completed yet another significant trade, sending Utah Jazz rookie guard RJ Luis Jr. two second-round draft picks and veteran bench player Georges Niang.
The Celtics will avoid the second penalty apron and save $8 million in luxury taxes by trading Niang, who Boston recently acquired from the Atlanta Hawks in the Porzingis transaction.
Shams Charania of ESPN claims that the Celtics reversed course and used their newfound flexibility to sign forward Chris Boucher to a one-year contract worth $3.3 million. The 6-foot-9 Boucher averaged 10.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17.2 minutes per game during the previous season with the Toronto Raptors.
Does Boston no longer have a market for Love as a result of that move?
For the record, White made his recommendation before Niang left.
White added, “The Celtics can give Love some real playing time, even though his top priorities for his next team might be a big market and title contention.” Love moving to Boston might be a better long-term option to end the possible Hall of Famer’s career because of the city’s strong sports market and the possibility that he won’t be competing again for another year.
For the Miami Heat, Love averaged 5.3 points and 4.1 rebounds in 23 games (nine of which were starts) during the previous season.
Which Teams Want to Sign Kevin Love?
NBA insider Marc Stein claims that Love, 36, who was acquired by the Jazz earlier this offseason as part of a three-team transaction, is “actively exploring” ways to leave Utah.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, if Love were to land a contract buyout, he would want to sign with the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers.
Additionally, Siegel hinted at a potential reunion with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
“With younger frontcourt players like Joan Beringer, Rocco Zikarsky, and Leonard Miller not necessarily ready to contribute right away, Love would be a great voice to add in their locker room given his experience and championship DNA.”
