In a bombshell revelation that has sent shockwaves through the rock and roll world, legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page has finally broken his silence about why he turned down the opportunity to collaborate with Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne.
Fans of both iconic rock figures have long speculated about a potential collaboration that never came to pass. While both Page and Osbourne are considered titans of the genre and shared mutual admiration, Page had always remained silent on why he passed on the chance to work with the former Black Sabbath frontman—until now.
In a recent exclusive interview with Classic Rock Magazine, the 80-year-old Page revealed that the main reason behind his decision was rooted in creative control and artistic integrity.
“Ozzy is a brilliant performer, and I’ve always respected what he’s done,” Page said. “But when the offer came in for us to work together on a potential album, it quickly became clear that I would have little to no say in the creative direction. I’ve spent my life shaping sound, building arrangements, and being deeply involved in the writing process. That’s something I simply couldn’t compromise.”
Page went on to explain that the proposed project, which was reportedly being planned in the early 2000s, was heavily steered by Osbourne’s management team, and that he felt the environment would not be conducive to the kind of collaborative freedom he required.
“I was asked to essentially just lay down some guitar parts, but not have much input into the structure or production,” Page said. “That’s just not how I operate. I need to be involved from the ground up. That’s how we did it in Zeppelin, and that’s how I continue to approach music.”
The revelation has stunned fans, especially those who had hoped for a Page-Osbourne collaboration to rival the likes of Ozzy’s work with Randy Rhoads or Tony Iommi. While Osbourne has yet to publicly respond, sources close to the rock icon suggest there are “no hard feelings,” and that Ozzy still holds Page in the highest regard.
