Austin Booker, a defensive end for the Chicago Bears, has been a favorite to be the team’s 2025 breakthrough star throughout the offseason, but another backup end might be a sleeper pick on par with him.
Nothing has changed at training camp, and Dominique Robinson’s play has been making waves throughout offseason workouts. Chris Kwiecinski, a reporter for FOX 32 in Chicago, named Robinson as one of the Bears’ highlights during the first week of training camp.
“Robinson has carried over his performance from obligatory minicamp and OTAs, which was one of Ben Johnson’s highlights, into training camp.
On Day 3, he had an incredible sequence in which he earned a sack and, on the very next play, a tackle for loss.
How the Bears should address depth at edge rusher is a topic of much debate. Before the preseason games even start, Robinson’s continued development and output could provide the Bears with an answer to their depth concerns.
Robinson’s fourth year might be the one that makes him famous.
After playing in just six games the previous season, many believed Robinson would not be with the team for long. However, he has made a significant comeback. In three NFL seasons, the former 2022 fifth-round pick has only recorded 1.5 sacks and two quarterback hits.
Robinson was the backup who needed a strong offseason if there was one on the fence. He may very well be playing into the rotation on the defensive line, and he is beginning to make an impression on the team and the Chicago media.
Booker and Robinson will serve as reserves, while Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo will maintain the starting lineup. Sweat was the defense’s top sacker in 2024 with just 5.5, so the Bears need Robinson to step up.
Robinson didn’t add any sacks to the stat line last season, despite other defenders receiving them. In 2025, that cannot occur again, and Robinson seems to have recognized that.
Robinson has an opportunity to continue gaining the favor of Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen by accumulating more reps with one month left in training camp.
