Steven Kwan, a left-fielder for the Cleveland Guardians, has seemingly been linked to the Padres very immediately as the MLB trade deadline draws near. Say nothing more. Other Friars veterans would warmly embrace Kwan’s veteran presence, and his motto of outworking opponents would undoubtedly uplift a talented but largely lazy club.
It’s obvious that the Friars need to make an offensive change. The Padres fell to 4.5 games back in the division after losing two of three games against the Miami Marlins due to poor run production following a good offensive performance against the Nationals.

Kwan is rightfully ranked as the second overall trade candidate on ESPN’s list of the top 50 MLB trade candidates, as compiled by Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan. The bad news? Only a 20% possibility of Kwan being dealt is projected by them. However, according to several reports, the Guardians are considering offers, so the correct package will unlock the code.
Kwan has two years left on his deal, which would improve the Padres’ outfield for a few more seasons in addition to provide immediate assistance. When opposing runners attempt to squeeze doubles against the left-field Gold Glover, Kwan regularly throws them out, demonstrating his supreme ball-playing ability.
Kwan already has 11 stolen bases this season, on top of his.285 average. The Guardians’ outfielder had 106 hits, which guarantees he would reach the bases more frequently even if Gavin Sheets of the Padres has more home runs than Kwan.
In his three years as a professional, Kwan has won a Gold Glove, and the Friars are quite interested in this. The A’s just lost a game yesterday because of a communication breakdown between shortstop and left field. The go-ahead run managed to cross home plate, but a flyball fell between them. Because of his sound techniques, mistakes like this would never occur, which is why the Friars need a player like Kwan.
If the Cleveland Guardians were set on Kwan, they wouldn’t be accepting offers, but it’s unclear exactly what they want in return. With so many hot prospects, including those the Padres would not want to let go of, Kwan’s signing could help them improve even further, and that’s worth the weight in gold.
