HUGE TRADE SIGNED: Padres – Kansas City Royals Trade Sees Padres Signed Monster $45 Million Ace

Chris Landers of FanSided recently created a fictitious trade that would send Kansas City Royals star Seth Lugo to the San Diego Padres in return for prospects Deivid Coronil and Kavares Tears. “The important stuff is coming up now. San Diego doesn’t really need a frontline player who can take the ball in a postseason game, as Nick Pivetta, Yu Darvish, and Cease are all available, and Michael King is presumably getting closer to returning from the injured list,” Landers said. An innings-eater who can start at number four and simply provide the Padres with competence and a chance to win every fifth day is what it needs—some stability.Seth Lugo's long and winding path to the Padres - East Village Times

“Lugo’s kitchen-sink strategy has been keeping hitters off balance for years, but he has his flaws and isn’t as terrific as his dazzling ERA indicates. Most significantly, he is a workhorse who can pitch deep into games because of his contact-forward style and has recently been comparatively healthy. Both teams appear to benefit greatly from this exchange. Lugo is unlikely to return to Kansas City after this season because his contract is about to expire. As he nears the end of his career in the coming years, the veteran righty will probably sign with the highest bidder in free agency.

This would give the Padres one more ace on their roster. Lugo has been outstanding in the last few seasons and doesn’t appear to be slowing down. To catch up to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West, the Padres must do whatever it takes. The Padres could afford to make a deal like this for an ace like Lugo, even though expanding the outfield might be the most urgent concern.
