The San Antonio Spurs are still making some excellent moves to help build around young superstar Victor Wembanyama, despite having a less exciting offseason than many had anticipated. The Spurs have improved without sacrificing their future, despite the fact that many predicted they would sign either Jaylen Brown, Giannis Antetokounmpo, or Kevin Durant this summer.
ESPN’s Shams Charania announced Wednesday morning that the Spurs have agreed to a one-year contract with guard Lindy Waters III, who is 27 years old.
“Knotch Sports representatives Shy Saee and Winston Nelson inform ESPN that free agency guard Lindy Waters III has signed to a one-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs. at his first four NBA seasons at Detroit, Golden State, and Oklahoma City, Waters has shot 37% from three-point range,” Charania said on X (previously Twitter).
In his final 14 games with the Detroit Pistons, Waters III, a four-year NBA veteran, hit an impressive 39.5% from three-point range and averaged 3.4 points per game. However, Waters III gained more recognition while playing with the Golden State Warriors and Oklahoma City Thunder.
During his first three years in Oklahoma City, Waters III shot 37.7% from outside the arc on 3.8 attempts per game and averaged 5.3 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.7 assists in 12.3 minutes per game. After that, the 6-foot-6 guard was moved to the Warriors, where he made 38 games and made nine starts, scoring an average of 5.5 points per game.
Without a doubt, San Antonio can rely on Waters III as a depth player because he has shown that he can contribute even in restricted situations.
