
LAKE CHARLES – Conner Westenburg, McNeese All-Southland Conference outfielder and Rawlings Gold Glove winner, has signed a free agent deal with the San Diego Padres.
The four-year McNeese letterman, who holds the school record for most lead-off home runs hit, slashed. 328/.429/.561 with seven home runs, 33 RBIs, and nine doubles, leading the Southland Conference with nine triples and 27 stolen bases.
He will report to Arizona on Sunday to begin his professional career.
“I’m super excited to continue my career,” Westenburg added. “I received a couple of offers during the draft, but my counsel recommended that we pass. I’m going in with the intention of competing, playing as hard as I can, and having fun playing the game I enjoy.”
Westenburg will be the seventh former Cowboy to compete in the professional levels.
