Romeo Doubs’ future has been a major topic in the offseason. The Green Bay Packers have a crowded wide receiver room, and with Doubs in the final year of his contract, a trade makes sense.
The Packers now have an additional reason to trade Doubs. 32.5 million reasons, to be exact.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have signed outstanding wide receiver Garrett Wilson to a hefty four-year contract worth $130 million. It costs an average of $32.5 million per season.
The Packers will have to work even harder to keep doubts at bay. No, he won’t get a deal worth $32.5 million per year, but Wilson’s extension demonstrates that the wide receiver market is booming, and the repercussions will reach Doubs’ next contract.
With Christian Watson also set to become a free agency, the Packers are nearly certain to lose Doubs. Trading him now is the solution.
Packers should listen to offers for Romeo Doubs before the season begins.
Several teams still require wide receiver assistance, including Aaron Rodgers’ Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Packers have a crowded receiving room. Doubs had to contend for targets with Watson, Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, Tucker Kraft, and Luke Musgrave. Now, add youngsters Matthew Golden and Savion Williams (along with free agent signing Mecole Hardman, provided he makes the roster). The squad has also relied largely on its rushing assault since signing Josh Jacobs, limiting Doubs’ possibilities.
Green Bay suspended Doubs for one game last season. Doubs was said to be “upset with his opportunities in the passing game.”
Adding three additional receivers is unlikely to help.
While the Packers might acquire a future compensatory pick if Doubs signs with a new team in free agency, it would be contingent on their own spending. Any major incoming transactions could nullify Doubs’ compensating pick.
What is one solution to this? Trade him now.
It resolves two potential issues. One, the Packers respond to a question regarding the confusing wide receiver picture. As things stand, they may have to cut a talented pass catcher. Two, they gain 2026 draft capital rather than accepting the uncertainty of a future compensation pick.
Doubts won’t earn $32.5 million per year, but the wide receiver market continues to expand. The Packers have invested in young players at the position, and Watson could be the favorite candidate for a contract in the coming year.
For the Packers and Doubs, a trade is the ideal solution.
