JUST NOW: Spurs Make Big Announcement About Victor Wembanyama Return To NBA Activities

Victor Wembanyama’s diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder stunned the NBA in February.

The issue, a hazardous blood clot that has ended many careers, prompted the San Antonio Spurs to shut him down for the balance of the 2024–25 season.

At the age of 21, Wembanyama had already established himself as a cornerstone of San Antonio’s future, and his absence was felt strongly on both ends of the floor.

Now there is a significant good development for the franchise, which has been growing around him since the beginning.

Victor Wembanyama wants to play every game with Spurs

“The Spurs have officially cleared Wemby to resume basketball activities,” he said in a statement to L’Equipe. “A deep vein right shoulder thrombosis limited him to only 46 games last season,” NBA on ESPN reported.

Wembanyama remained active throughout his recuperation.

He attended a 10-day training retreat at the Shaolin Temple in China, where he focused on mental clarity, physical control, and alternative conditioning techniques.

He later visited Japan, where he was seen playing soccer and interacting with supporters.

Victor Wembanyama’s first season may have ended prematurely, but his effect was clear.

Wemby was in uncommon form, averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and a league-leading 3.8 blocks per game.

In 1975-76, he had the same stat line as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.

His ability to dominate the inside while launching 304 three-pointers distinguished him as a generational two-way player. He was well on his way to being named Defensive Player of the Year before suffering an injury.

With the Spurs signing De’Aaron Fox, Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle, and No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper, Wemby’s return might open up a new chapter in San Antonio.

After finishing 34-48 last season, this reloaded group appears to be set to re-enter the playoffs, with Wembanyama leading the way.
