The Philadelphia Phillies are one of baseball’s greatest teams again this season, but they still need to make a few huge moves to secure their spot at the top of the National League. The Phillies need to improve their outfield. They’ve been believed to be interested in Luis Robert Jr., but that deal doesn’t seem feasible at this time. The Phillies are likely to resort to a few lesser-known possibilities. Thomas Erbe of That Ball’s Outta Here recently indicated that the Phillies may complete a “realistic” trade with the Los Angeles Angels to acquire slugging outfielder Taylor Ward.
“Ward had already hit a team-high 20 home runs before the All-Star break. Erbe noted, “Statistically, he’s even more dangerous outside of Angel Stadium than he is inside his home park.” “There are only a small handful of ballparks further away from Los Angeles than Philadelphia.” Ward’s power can travel all over the field, and the Phillies are desperate for power from the right side of the plate. If his huge gain in OPS can be translated into hitting at Citizens Bank Park for half of the season’s remaining at-bats, the Phillies might score an amazing steal at the deadline and catapult to the top of the National League when all is said and done.
Ward is under team control until the 2026 season.” Ward would be an ideal addition to the Phillies. The slugger is in the middle of his great year in Los Angeles, and he would bring just enough club control to make it worthwhile for Philadelphia. While the Angels may not be eager to sell this season, the Phillies might put together a strong trade deal to acquire the star from the Angels.
Adding Ward to a lineup that includes Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, and several other studs would be risky for the league.
