JUST NOW: Eagles Sign Defensive Tackle to $55 Million Extension

The Philadelphia Eagles have a rare ability to get almost every roster choice right.

However, Jordan Davis, the 2022 first-round pick, has been the exception so far. But that doesn’t mean general manager Howie Roseman will let Davis walk away.

Since the Eagles picked up Davis’ fifth-year option for 2026, fans and commentators have been wondering what to anticipate in terms of a contract extension.

The 6-6, 336-pound interior lineman has 90 tackles and 3.5 sacks in three seasons in the NFL. He had one sack and two passes deflected for the Eagles during the regular season, but he added two sacks in the postseason to help Philadelphia win the Super Bowl.

What contract will Jordan Davis receive from the Eagles?
The Eagles SB Nation site “Bleeding Green Nation” examined Davis’ probable contract extension and agreed on a three-year, $51 million deal with $33 million guaranteed and a $15 million signing bonus.

According to the report, the agreement would place the interior defensive lineman 17th in the NFL, behind only Ed Oliver of the Buffalo Bills and two-time Pro Bowler Jonathan Allen of the Minnesota Vikings.

Kevin Knight, a blog writer, compared Davis’ contract to that of Javon Kinlaw, who was selected 14th in the 2020 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners did not take up Kinlaw’s fifth-year option, thus he signed with the New York Jets. After a spectacular season,

Kinlaw got a lucrative contract with the Eagles’ rivals, the Washington Commanders.

“Kinlaw came on strong in the final year of his rookie deal but had to settle for a one-year ‘prove-it’ deal with the New York Jets last season,” Knight tweeted. “Kinlaw followed that up with a career year in New York and then cashed in with a massive three-year, $45 million deal with the Washington Commanders in free agency this offseason.”

Kinlaw had 4.5 sacks and 40 tackles with the Jets last season, after totaling five sacks and 70 tackles in his first four seasons with the 49ers. Davis had comparable results in his first three seasons and was similarly selected in his draft year.

This means that teams would sign up to draft him if he became free agent after next season.

“He is still quite young and has sky-high potential due to his rare size and length,” according to Knight. “He’s a high-profile player because of his draft position and the aforementioned characteristics, and he plays on a top defense. If the Eagles are unwilling to go this far, someone else is likely to make a huge play for Davis.”

The hypothetical agreement takes into account the market worth of interior linemen. Knight also openly admits that Davis’ value may not be shown on stat sheets, as the primary function of run stuffers is to occupy lines, allowing linebackers to make tackles with ease.

“It’s important to remember that good nose tackles (and run defenders in general) don’t often generate large numbers on the stat sheet,” said Knight, “but they may be critical in creating opportunities for the rest of the defense. Davis looks like one of those sorts at this point in his career.”

Still, the key concern is whether Davis can remain on the field. Despite not missing a game in the previous two seasons, he only played 37 percent of the Eagles’ defensive snaps in 2024.
