According to Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder, the Eagles are the ideal landing location for former No. 1 overall pick and free agency edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney, who could surely add some heaviness to the Eagles’ front seven as they aim to win a second consecutive Super Bowl.
In 2024, Clowney led the Carolina Panthers with 6.0 sacks and 9.0 TFLs. He has 58 career sacks in his first 11 seasons and is the NFL’s active leader in fumble returns for touchdowns (3).

“Clowney missed three games due to injury in 2024, which has been a consistent theme throughout his career,” Holder wrote on Wednesday, July 3. “He has only played a full season’s worth of games twice in the last 11 years.
That, paired with being on the wrong side of 30 years old, is most likely why the Panthers let him go during free agency and is one of the reasons he remains unsigned. But a team searching for help on the edge should at least phone the veteran.
Spotrac estimates Clowney’s market value at $22.8 million over two years, which is a grossly irresponsible expenditure. At this time, he appears to be better suited to a one-year, $3 million contract.
Clowney spent 2024 in the NFL Wasteland.
Clowney was the Houston Texans’ No. 1 choice in 2014, and he made his only NFL All-Pro Team in 2016. He was chosen to three consecutive Pro Bowls from 2016 to 2018, before being traded to the Seattle Seahawks midway through the 2019 season.
Clowney has approximately $95 million in career earnings and has played for six different clubs in the last six seasons. In March 2024, he signed a two-year, $20 million contract with the Panthers, but was released on May 8 due to a salary cap maneuver.
Eagles Watched Sacks Leader Leave In Free Agency

When we see the Eagles defense for the first time in a regular season game in 2025, it may come as a surprise to some.
That’s because a significant portion of last year’s Super Bowl-winning club on that side of the ball has left via free agency or trade. Josh Sweat, last season’s regular season sacks leader and Super Bowl hero, joined the club after signing a four-year, $76.4 million free agent contract with the Arizona Cardinals.
Milton Williams, a talented defensive lineman, has also moved up front, signing a four-year, $104 million free agent contract with the New England Patriots.
