JUST IN: Former Celtics Forward Has Officially Sign An Professional Contract With San Antonio Spurs In Free Agency

After a successful season with the 76ers, Guerschon Yabusele is anticipated to be among the more sought-after big men in free agency this summer. The former Celtics forward was a bright spot for the 76ers and made the most of his second NBA shot in Philadelphia last year, setting career highs in points, rebounds, and 3-point shooting percentage. As Yabusele enters the free agency market this summer, his impressive output and outstanding play with France during the 2024 Olympics are drawing interest from potential suitors.

The San Antonio Spurs, where he may rejoin his French teammate Victor Wembanyama, are reportedly one of those suitors, according to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype. Dylan Harper, a wing, is anticipated to be selected by the Spurs with the second overall choice in the draft. With the full non-taxpayer mid-level exception ($14 million) anticipated to be available to them, they are free to add assistance in the front court.

Spurs SHOULD SIGN Guerschon Yabusele!?

After averaging 11.0 points, 5.6 rebounds, and shooting 38 percent from three-point range for the Sixers, Yabusele is not anticipated to return to Philadelphia. The 76ers want to keep the big man, but because of their salary limit crisis, Philadelphia won’t have the money to give Yabusele a high salary. Unless they clear out any compensation elsewhere to open up the taxpayer mid-level exemption, they can only offer Yabusele 120 percent of his last deal ($2.3 million) because he does not have Bird Rights.

The Spurs and a number of other clubs may still outbid the Sixers for Yabusele even in that case if they so want. In the upcoming weeks, Philadelphia will probably have to decide whether to pursue Yabusele or keep Quentin Grimes unless they can cut the salary of some other players (Kelly Oubre Jr., Andre Drummond, and Eric Gordon).

Spurs could be eyeing NBA's biggest redemption story this summer

Yabusele’s ability to stretch the floor would make him an intriguing addition to Wemanyama. Charles Bassey is now the lone big man on the Spurs’ roster besides Wemby, meaning they don’t have many players under contract for the upcoming campaign. At the moment, Bismack Biyombo is a free agent.

On Monday night, NBA free agency will formally begin.
