To put themselves in a position to win the American League East, the New York Yankees have made a number of wise decisions in recent months. To optimize their chances of winning a World Series, the Bronx Bombers must make a couple more transactions before to the trade deadline. Colin Keane of Sports Illustrated recently hinted that the Yankees would try to acquire left-hander Steven Matz of the St. Louis Cardinals in the upcoming weeks. “The New York Yankees are looking to fortify their bullpen in preparation for another postseason run,” Keane stated. “The Major League Baseball trade deadline is just over five weeks away, so don’t look now.

Prior to spending their prospect money on a starter who is now a bullpen arm, the Yankees will have to use it on a starting pitcher. Even though the lefty had a strong season, Matz wouldn’t be much of an improvement in the Yankees’ bullpen right now.
