The Oilers acquire Evander Kane, a 2025 third-round pick from St. Louis:

Both teams benefit from the proposed transaction, as Detroit receives a draft pick in exchange for signing a reliable middle-six forward in the NHL. The Red Wings give up a young forward who has had trouble adjusting to Detroit in return.
Evander Kane, who is about to enter the last year of a four-year, $20.5 million contract, would be acquired by the Red Wings. Kane fits in well with the Red Wings and is anticipated to be dealt this offseason. For Detroit, Kane would be a second or third-line forward who can score goals in addition to playing a physical role. In addition, he would lead the squad on the ice and provide playoff experience. Despite missing the full season due to an injury, Kane scored 12 points in 21 playoff games with 6 goals and 6 assists.
Berggren, a pending RFA, would be traded to Detroit in exchange. The 24-year-old would be a trade candidate because he has had trouble fitting in with the Red Wings.
Kane Shopping for the Oilers
Despite Edmonton’s desire to let Kane go, the Oilers will receive a respectable return for him because he is still a talented NHL player.
According to NHL expert Elliotte Friedman, Kane will find a good market in trade negotiations this offseason.
On The Fan Hockey Show, Friedman stated, “Kane was a really effective player.” “I believe a market will exist for him.”
Kane does have some trade protection because he is on a 16-team no-transfer list. Friedman also questions Kane’s desire to be traded.
We’ll see how he and the Oilers react to this; he recently had another child. We’ll see,” Friedman continued regarding Kane, “but I say that because not everyone is always interested in transferring as their family grows.
Throughout his NHL career, Kane has skated in 930 games and has 617 points.
GM of the Red Wings Is Amenable to Aggression
The Red Wings want to be aggressive in the offseason because Detroit is currently experiencing a playoff drought.
During his year-end press conference, Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman stated unequivocally that the team is willing to take aggressive measures to end its playoff drought.
