After being among baseball’s top offensive teams this season, the New York Yankees are currently experiencing an unexpected dip.
The Yankees have now lost three straight shutout games for the first time since 2016 with another loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday. The team must now look to players like Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton for answers at the plate, but with the trade deadline approaching in a few weeks, an outside candidate may also be considered.
However, Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report named the Yankees the “dream landing spot” for Cleveland Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez following the Boston Red Sox’s surprising Rafael Devers trade. “Ramirez, 32, is another guy with full no-trade protection, and thus another guy who will go anywhere only if he wants to,” Rymer wrote in the piece. Nevertheless, even with a hole in their infield, the Yankees’ chances of winning are far better than Cleveland’s.
Although he would also work alongside Aaron Judge to provide the Yankees the best combo in the American League, he would fill that by playing third and pushing Jazz Chisholm Jr. back to second base.
With four straight All-Star selections for the Guardians, Ramirez has been among the top players in baseball in recent seasons, and there isn’t any clear reason to believe he may be traded. However, the fact that the Guardians are only a game over.500 and almost ten games behind the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central division raises the potential that they will be sold by the deadline. However, regardless of how much the Yankees would like to see this trade concept become a reality, it appears destined to stay in “dream” land.
