At the 2025 trade deadline, the New York Yankees might try to strengthen their lineup in a few different areas before attempting to contend for a World Series.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are one team the Yankees are likely to keep an eye on as July draws near. Buster Olney, an MLB insider for ESPN, claims that New York would be “in on” slugging third baseman Eugenio Suarez if the D-Backs opt to sell at the deadline.
Suarez’s contract is now in its last season, and he will be eligible for unrestricted free agency the following offseason.
With 21 home runs, 57 RBIs, and a.834 OPS, he has had a scorching start to the season. He would fit in well with New York’s lineup, which is in need of a third baseman after moving Jazz Chisholm Jr., a natural second baseman, to the position.
Olney also hinted that the Diamondbacks would let go of other veterans like Merrill Kelly, Josh Naylor, and Zac Gallen.
Naturally, this depends on Arizona’s ability to exert pressure between the middle of June and the trade deadline. With a 36–35 record, the Diamondbacks are now in fourth place in the NL West division, which is packed. They now trail a wild cart position in the National League by three games.
