Eintracht Frankfurt has struck a sensational agreement with Premier League giants Manchester United to acquire two out-of-favour stars on a long-term loan deal, which includes an obligation to buy.
The duo in question—Scott McTominay and Facundo Pellistri—have struggled for regular playing time under newly appointed Manchester United boss Rúben Amorim. The Portuguese tactician, known for his intense pressing and possession-based system, appears to have different plans for the club’s midfield and wing structure, leaving both players sidelined throughout pre-season.
McTominay, a Scotland international and United academy graduate, was once a key figure under Ole Gunnar Solskjær and later Erik ten Hag. However, Amorim’s system has shown little room for the traditional box-to-box style McTominay brings. Pellistri, meanwhile, has shown glimpses of potential but has failed to break into the starting XI consistently. With Amorim prioritizing wide players with high tactical discipline and end product, the Uruguayan winger has found himself on the periphery.
Eintracht Frankfurt, capitalizing on the opportunity, moved swiftly to secure the services of both players. The Bundesliga side reportedly agreed to a long-term loan arrangement—believed to span two seasons—with a mandatory buy clause triggered by a set number of appearances and performance metrics. The combined value of the deal is estimated at €45 million, with structured payments stretching over three years.
Sources close to the negotiation revealed that Eintracht sees McTominay as a potential midfield anchor to replace outgoing star Djibril Sow, while Pellistri is expected to inject pace and unpredictability into their flanks—an area the German side has struggled with in the past season.
Manchester United fans have expressed mixed emotions on social media. While some welcome the trimming of the squad to accommodate Amorim’s vision, others fear that the club is letting go of two players with untapped potential.
