Detroit saw instant transformation under McLellan. They entered the postseason race after going on several long winning streaks. Although Detroit did return to Earth in the end, Talbot thinks this squad benefits from the adjustments McLellan made.
“We had slightly tighter systems. We were altering some breakouts and other things, stepping a little outside of our comfort zone. Both on and off the ice, McLellan and assistant coach Trent Yawney are excellent communicators and accountability providers. You could see that things began to alter as soon as they arrived. According to Mills, the Red Wings goalie stated, “I think the whole group is looking forward to starting fresh and from Training Camp next year.”
