In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns drafted two quarterbacks and two running backs, but they only added one pass-catcher to go with their young gunslingers.
In his 2024 season, Jerry Jeudy recorded a career-high 90 receptions for more than 1,200 yards. But aside from Jeudy, there isn’t another exceptional receiver who can manage a heavy workload that Jeudy can team with.
Cedric Tillman, Jamari Thrash, Diontae Johnson, Michael Woods, and DeAndre Carter are in the receiver room outside of Jeudy.
David Njoku and Harold Fannin Jr., who was just selected in the draft, are both reliable tight ends for the Browns. However, Njoku is coming off a poor season and is starting his 29th season and Fannin isn’t a reliable NFL player.
For this reason, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report recommends that the Browns trade tight end Kyle Pitts to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for cornerback Greg Newsome.
“While player-for-player swaps are rare, this one could make sense for both teams,” Knox stated. Since his rookie season, Pitts hasn’t really been the focal point of the offense, and the Falcons might not want to give him market value in the long run. When healthy, Newsome has been a reliable player for the Browns, but Cleveland needs to consider its offensive future.
The Browns will probably look to select a quarterback at the top of the 2026 draft if they are unable to locate a long-term quarterback in rookies Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel or in trade acquisition Kenny Pickett. Harold Fannin Jr. is an inexperienced rookie tight end, and current starter tight end David Njoku is scheduled to become a free agent in 2026. With this hypothetical agreement, the Falcons and Browns could acquire players from the 2021 draft who might not be in their long-term plans in exchange for one-year auditions.
Pitts doesn’t have the usual tight end tools, but Njoku is still a good TE1. He would have no trouble lining up in the slot because he is one of the league’s fastest and most nimble tight ends. After accumulating more over 1,000 yards in his debut season, Pitts qualified for the Pro Bowl. Pitts’ target numbers have drastically decreased, and Atlanta’s offense has been a complete mess in previous seasons. Pittts, who has demonstrated the capacity to outperform NFL coverages, would benefit greatly from a change of environment.
