The Pittsburgh Steelers are one of only a few teams left looking for a quarterback this summer, and it appears that Aaron Rodgers is still the best option.
However, Rodgers is notoriously erratic and has yet to commit to Pittsburgh, so there is still a chance he will not, especially since training camp is just a few weeks away.
Given this context, ESPN’s Ben Solak proposed a trade on Thursday, June 4, in which the Steelers would send a Day 3 draft pick to the Atlanta Falcons in return for Kirk Cousins.
“The Steelers’ quarterback room is about as thin as it can get heading into training camp. And if Aaron Rodgers’ agreement falls through, the Steelers will have to trade for an experienced starter,” Solak said. “Mason Rudolph presently leads the depth chart.
“Cousins is an excellent fit for coordinator Arthur Smith’s scheme, which does not need the quarterback to move much outside the pocket. This late of a draft pick is close to Cousins’ worth, and I’d assume the Falcons are still prepared to swallow $20 million — perhaps even more — of his salary to complete this transaction.”
