Jeff Petry might not return, and Justin Holl might be acquired by the Red Wings. In light of this, NHL analyst Todd Matthews of Octopus Thrower on FanSided recommends that the Red Wings replace Holl with Cody Ceci.
During the regular season, Cody Ceci demonstrated remarkable durability. Between his stints with the Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks, he played in an absurd 85 games,” Matthews wrote. He only had four goals and 24 points at the end of the season. But Ceci notched top-four minutes, a plus-6, and he was a shot-blocking dynamo, getting in front of 155 pucks.
“Ceci would provide the Red Wings with more consistent ice time on the second or third pairing and step up in ways Justin Holl never could,” Matthews continued. “Ceci may put up just solid, if not spectacular, play.” Ceci would only be a temporary solution for a year or two, but he wouldn’t be my first pick.
Ceci will probably make between $3 and $4 million annually in free agency after completing his four-year, $13 million contract with the Dallas Stars. On the blue line, Ceci, a seasoned defenseman, may offer an experienced presence.
Ceci has skated in 871 games during his NHL career, scoring 235 points with 52 goals and 183 assists.
