Users can make their own trades using the PuckGM tool on the website PuckPedia. One user suggested a trade in which Jake Oettinger would be acquired by the Red Wings from the Dallas Stars.
Red Wings obtain:
Jake Oettinger The Stars get:
Mrazek Petr
Sebastian Cossa, 13th overall, 2025 first-round selection
2026 second-round selection
In addition to giving Dallas a sizable return, the proposed deal would be a blockbuster since Detroit would acquire one of the NHL’s top goalies.
Oettinger, who will start the first year of his eight-year, $66 million contract this coming season, would be acquired by the Red Wings. Oettinger may desire to be dealt when the playoffs concluded, but he has no trade protection in the first year of the contract, thus he might be moved without his consent. Last season, Oettinger finished 36-18-4 with a 2.59 GAA and a.909 SV%.
Dallas would forfeit two picks, including the 13th overall pick, in exchange. Mrazek, who can assist in Oettinger’s replacement and start as Dallas’ goalie, would also be traded by Detroit. Mrazek’s two-year, $8.5 million contract is up in one year. After being traded to the Red Wings, Mrazek had a 2.49 GAA and a.902 SV% while playing for Detroit, going 2-2.
Cossa, one of the NHL’s top goalkeeper prospects, would be the major component of the transaction, along with the 13th overall pick. Mrazek is the stand-in for Cossa, who might play in the NHL next season but is probably a year away. In the 2021 NHL Draft, Cossa was chosen with the 15th overall pick.
Analyst Thinks Oettinger Will Ask the Stars for a Trade
Despite being one of the NHL’s top goalies, Oettinger might ask the organization for a move.
Dallas lost to the Edmonton Oilers in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals. After two early goals, Oettinger was substituted by Stars head coach Peter DeBoer just minutes into the match. NHL expert Matt Murley of Spittin’ Chiclets thinks Oettinger would ask for a trade after being pulled.
On the Spittin’ Chiclets Game 5 live stream, Murley stated, “It might not be a firing offense, but don’t be shocked if Oettinger asks for a trade or something from something like this.”
DeBoer also seemed to poke fun at Oettinger after the game when he explained why he had pulled him.
“I didn’t hold Jake solely responsible, but the truth is that he had lost six of seven games versus Edmonton in the playoffs from the previous year. And in an elimination game, we allowed two goals on two shots,” DeBoer stated after the match. It was done in part to energize and arouse our workforce. Additionally, that is a rather large sample size, and it is somewhat known that the status quo had not been effective.
In Game 5, Oettinger was pulled before he could make a stop, ultimately giving up two goals on two shots.
The Red Wings coach wants to get better in goalkeeping.
Goaltending is one of the most critical aspects, according to coach Todd McLellan.
Alex Westlund, the Red Wings’ goalie coach, was sacked by McLellan because he believes the team just has to make more saves.
“Alex Westlund isn’t the only goalie we need to improve. That’s the responsibility of the goalies, the head coach, and all other participants,” McLellan stated.
Oettinger is among the league’s top goalies if Detroit wants a better one.
